About
Broken Photo is a film-based exhibition built from imagery created with altered film and modified cameras. Film and images are hand-processed by non-digital means and are devoid of digital retouching of any kind. From the broken beauty of the everyday to intentionally distended film emulsion, Broken Photo is about bearing witness to our lives and making the images we want to see using tactile, physical means.
Broken Photo is curated by Jessi T Walsh, Theo Katsaounis and Trent Reusnow, three Chicago-based interdisciplinary artists of diverse, yet congruent, media.
We are equally as thrilled to see framed pieces as we are to experience experimental work. Artists are free to move from wall-mounted photographic display into other manifestations of hand-manipulated imagery. We are open to all manner of image-based sculpture, installation, costumery, live performance and the like.
By passing the torch to or working in collaboration with another artist, we are setting up a new model of community curation, wherein the former generation selects their successors for future Broken Photo exhibitions.
